About 80 percent of our production is used for steel making of which one third is used by local Kiwi steel producers. The Stockton Opencast Mine is located close to the coast on a plateau in the Buller coalfield, 35 km north of Westport. This is one of New Zealand’s largest mines with a long history of coal production and produces high value coal for export to the world’s leading steel makers.

- Salary range - $120,000 - $135,000

About The Role:
Are you a skilled Mining Engineer with a passion for innovation? We're looking for an experienced professional to join our Technical Services Team at the Stockton Opencast operation. This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in the planning and development of our coal mine, specifically focused on Short-term Mine Planning.
Reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer, you will be responsible for:
- Planning and monitoring technical practices to ensure production targets are met.
- Investigating and developing new projects to extend the economic life of the mine.
- Driving continuous improvement within the operation.
What you will bring to the role:
- Absolute commitment to health and safety; not only for yourself, but your work mates too
- A relevant tertiary qualification in mining.
- At least 3 years of opencast experience as a mining engineer, preferably within a coal operation.
- Significant experience in planning and scheduling.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
