Are you currently in your 3rd or 4th year of university and considering where your career could take you?
Bathurst Resources is interested in connecting with talented students and future graduates who are looking to apply their knowledge in a dynamic, practical, and rewarding industry.
We are seeking Expressions of Interest from students studying:
- Geology – investigating and interpreting geological data to support exploration, resource planning, and mining operations.
- Geochemistry – identify and quantify potential mining induced elevation of metals, alkalinity, acidity in mine waste rock leachate and remediation solutions for optimal rehabilitation of land (including soil chemistry) and waterways.
- Ecology – Aquatic ecology - assessing the health of streams, ponds and lakes in relation to mining activity and provide technical advice to manage and improve aquatic ecology in areas impacted by historic, current and future mining. Terrestrial ecology- provide advice on land rehabilitation techniques, plant species, plant densities to provide for optimal mine closure.
- Environmental Engineering – helping to develop practical solutions that support environmental compliance, rehabilitation, water management, and sustainable mining operations.
- Surveying – providing accurate spatial data and mapping to support mine planning, development, and operational activities.
- Mining Engineering – designing, planning and optimizing mining operations with a focus on safety, productivity, and sustainable resource extraction.
- Legal & Planning – aid legal and planning advice where appropriate and monitor national, regional and district plan and policy changes, work on consent applications, wildlife permits, and access arrangements with site and project teams

Bathurst Resources is New Zealand's largest specialist coal producer with four local coal mining operations. We produce over 2.2 million tons of coal each year and proudly employ more than 550 people. Around 80% of our production supports local and international steel manufacturing, while our high-quality thermal coal helps power many iconic New Zealand food and dairy businesses.
Our operations span both the North and South Islands. Stockton Mine, New Zealand's largest open-cast mine, is located on the stunning West Coast of the South Island, 35km north of Westport. We also operate the Rotowaro and Maramarua mines in the Waikato region, providing opportunities across mining, engineering, geology, surveying, and environmental disciplines.
