Technical Services Staff - Takitimu Mine

Bathurst Resources is New Zealand’s largest specialist coal company. We produce over 2.2 million tonnes of coal each year and proudly employ over 550 people. 

An exciting opportunity available for full-time Technical Services Staff to join our team at Takitimu Coal Mine located near the town of Nightcaps, 60km northwest of Invercargill. 

If you have mining experience as a Surveyor, Geologist, Mining Engineer and or Geotechnical engineer, we welcome your application.

The Role

Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, you will provide assistance with survey, geotechnical and geology functions of the mine.

Responsibilities include: 

  • Performing field survey activities as required for the safe achievement of mine production.
  • Survey the pit, waste dump and ROM pad on a regular basis as required using DJI remotely piloted aircraft and survey GPS equipment.
  • Monitoring, maintenance and reporting for real-time wall stability monitoring system.
  • Inspection and walk-over for the high wall stability, taking in-pit samples from coal faces, and trenching.
  • Produce the end of month surface and assist with volumetric calculations for reporting.
  • Developing and maintaining survey control networks, survey infrastructure and equipment.
  • Assist with field tasks and coal quality requirements for the mine geologist.
  • Perform other ad-hoc tasks as required.

To be successful for this role you will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Geology, Geotechnical Engineering and or Surveying.
  • Operational and exploration experience in Mining Industry
  • The ability to maintain high standards of safety, housekeeping and compliance with mine working procedures and health and safety standards.
  • Experience in mining software is beneficial.
  • Exemplary planning, organisational and control skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and learn on the job.
  • High level of energy and motivation with a desire to achieve results.
  • Efficient user of Microsoft Office Software.
  • New Zealand Driver’s license.

This is a residential based role. Candidates will be required to live locally or be willing to relocate.
