Stockton Mine - Senior Safety Advisor
Bathurst Resources Ltd currently operates Stockton Opencast Coal Mine which is located close to the coast on a plateau in the Buller coalfield, 35 km north of Westport. This is one of New Zealand’s largest mines with a long history of coal production and produces high value coal for export to the world’s leading steel makers.
We are currently looking for the following position to join our Health, Safety, Environment and Community (HSEC)Team at our Stockton Mine.
Reporting to the HSEC Manager, the Senior Safety Advisor will support HSECManager and Mine Manager to ensure all mining and related activities are carried out in accordance with the Health and Safety At Work Act and Mining and Quarrying Operations Regulations. You will also be responsible for the coordination and continuous improvement of our Health and Safety Management System.
This position promotes, coordinates, and facilitates site health and safety activities, processes, education, and training to improve occupational health, safety and emergency preparedness at Stockton to support the achievement of a Zero Harm Culture at Stockton Mine.
Additionally, this position includes the evaluating and reporting on the effectiveness of site occupational health and safety activities, monitoring safe handling of materials/substances and management of OHS system standards/proceduresand the monitoring and evaluation of mine contractors and their obligations to comply with the statutory and company requirements.
The ideal applicant will have experience in a similar position and will have a formal qualification in Health and Safety or be willing to study towards one.
To be successful in the role you will have:
- A tertiary qualification in Occupational Health and Safety or extensive role experience in Health and Safety
- Certification in Incident Investigation and Occupational First Aid
- Extensive Experience in an advisory or supervisory role in an industrial operation
- Thorough understanding and proven application of OHS Legislation
- Broad range of OHS experience
- Experience in Risk Management Practice
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong commitment to safety
