Software Test and Support Engineer - Stockton Mine 10253

About Us:

Bathurst Resources Ltd currently operates Stockton Opencast Mine which is located close to the coast on a plateau in the Buller coalfield, 35 km north of Westport. This is one of New Zealand's largest mines with a long history of coal production and produces high value coal for export to the world's leading steel makers.

To strengthen our Technical Services Team, we are filling the position of:

Software Test and Support Engineer

Stockton Opencast Mine, Buller

Reporting to the Fleet Technology Superintendent, this role provides software and electronics capabilities in the field of mining fleet technology. This includes the systems that provide high precision GPS guidance of mining equipment.

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Software Engineering or Electronics with the ability to demonstrate high capability in software and computer system engineering.
  • Strong Software Engineering skills, including knowledge of the C & C++ languages.
  • Software system functional test experience, including development of test processes and scripts.
  • Experience with package management systems, version control, etc such that field deployments are kept up to date and are bug free.
  • Hardware fault finding, and the ability to respond to problems that arise in the field.  This requires a capable driver, use of the mine site 2-way radio, and operating within the appropriate site traffic and mining procedures.
  • Good understanding of the Linux operating system including Bash and Python scripting.
  • Electronics and computing hardware experience. A good understanding of electronics theory.
  • Excellent planning, organisational and control skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and learn on the job 
  • High level of energy and motivation with a desire to achieve results

The Technical Services Team is a department with a variety of on-going tasks, focused on the planning and development of the open cast coal mine.

This role is based at the Stockton Mine Site and the work hours are 43.75 hours per week, Monday-Friday from 6.45am-4.00pm.
