Management Accountant - Stockton Mine

Bathurst Resources Ltd currently operates Stockton Opencast Mine which is located close to the coast on a plateau in the Buller coalfield, 35 km north of Westport. This is one of New Zealand’s largest mines with a long history of coal production and produces high value coal for export to the world’s leading steel makers.

To strengthen our Commercial Team, we are filling the role of 

Management Accountant

The Role

Reporting to our Finance Business Partner, this role is responsible for providing high quality financial analysis and reporting to support management of the Stockton Mine and export business. This includes monthly financial reporting, royalty and levy returns, project reporting, financial analysis and variance reporting. The role will also include assisting with budgets and long-term business planning, along with financial modelling and scenario analysis as required. The role is dynamic, and the individual will need to understand all operational parts of the business and be required to deal with a range of stakeholders, both internal and external. The role requires proven problem-solving ability and the flexibility to become involved in a wide variety of business problems and decisions, both financial and non-financial.

The successful candidate will have recent experience in a similar financial position and be looking for an opportunity to join a progressive team to further develop their skills and experience. Proven financial experience and problem solving is required and they will have strong communication skills and be able to work independently and as part of team. They will display a positive attitude and a willingness to learn and immerse themselves into all parts of the business. The candidate will demonstrate the ability to build relationships with stakeholders.

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • Tertiary level accounting qualification
  • Chartered Accountant (CA) status, with 3+ years post graduate accounting experience in a large commercial organisation/CA firm
  • Be proficient in Accounting systems and processes
  • Strong computer skills, especially in Excel
  • Financial modelling and analysis skills
  • Problem solving ability
  • Proven ability to build relationships with stakeholders, both internal and external
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team

The Commercial Team is a department with a variety of on-going tasks, focussed on collecting, analysing and providing financial data to the management of our organisation.
