Bathurst Resources is New Zealand’s largest specialist coal mine company. We produced over 2.2 million tonnes of coal each year and proudly employ over 550 people.  About 80 percent of our production is used for steel making of which one third is used by a local Kiwi steel mill. Our high-quality, thermal-grade coals fuels are used to help drive the engines of many iconic South Island food and dairy businesses.

Our Maramarua Mine is an opencast mine which produces a low-ash, low sulphur thermal coal for the domestic market. We are located in the Waikato region 20km south of the Bombay’s (Auckland) or 50km from Thames (Coromandel) – you get to choose if you want the city life or the coast life.

The Role:

This is a permanent, full-time position, reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor. The Heavy Diesel Mechanic role is involved in scheduled & unscheduled maintenance and repairs of a fleet of CAT haulage trucks, utility vehicles, load shifting equipment. Monday to Saturday rotating day/night shift, 97.75 hours per fortnight. Some of the tasks are:

  • Repair and maintain the hydraulic components of large mining equipment
  • Diagnose, overhaul, repair, tune, maintain and test diesel powered heavy equipment including trucks, dozers, and other earth moving equipment
  • Communicate any safety or maintenance issues to the supervisor

Skills & Requirements

  • Need to have at least 3 years of relevant work experience
  • Trade qualification in Heavy plant  or related field AUS/NZ Recognised Trade Certificate or equivalent overseas qualification
  • Experience in OEM mobile plant –
    • CAT Haul trucks 740, 777
    • Water cart CAT 773
    • CAT D6 D8 D9 Dozers
    • CAT 16M Grader
    • CAT 966, 980 Loaders
  • Komatsu, CAT, Hitachi, Volvo excavators (PC1800, 1900, 1250, 336, EC750)
  • Outstanding troubleshooting / diagnostic skills
  • Ability to read schematics
  • Previous experience conducting component change-outs / breakdowns and fault finding
  • Valid and relevant Driver's Licences
  • Sourcing technical information from available reference manuals, OEM, and computer- based systems
  • Ability to work autonomously

This is a residential-based role. Candidates will be required to live locally or be willing to relocate.  Relocation support is offered to the right candidate.
