Health Safety and Training Coordinator - Takitimu Mine

Bathurst Resources is New Zealand’s largest specialist coal company. We produce over 2.2 million tonnes of coal each year and proudly employ over 550 people. 

Our Takitimu Mine is located near the town of Nightcaps, 60km northwest of Invercargill and we are seeking motivated Health Safety and Training Coordinator to be part of a team of friendly and professional people.

The Role

The purpose of the Health Safety and Training Coordinator is to support the Operations Manager in ensuring mining and related activities are carried out in accordance with our legislative requirements.

Day to Day Duties

  • Assist with preparation, review, improvement and update as necessary of the HSECMS, PHMP, Mine Record, and Training Documents and Records for the mines in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide support to the Operations Manager, in the investigation of accidents and incidents. 
  • Provide safety and training information, assistance and advice to all workers and contribute to the development of safety management and communication skills in frontline supervisors.
  • Ensure adequate first response for emergencies and fires capability is maintained for site including the coordination of regular mock scenarios to test the emergency response capability.
  • Coordinate the Health and Safety Committee representatives, meetings, and outcomes.
  • Reporting of all Health, Safety, and Training statistics and activities as required.
  • Coordinate end of month Health and Safety reporting.
  • Maintenance of document control and filing systems (soft and hard) within functional area of operations.

Day to Day Duties

  • Formal education in OH&S and/or Training
  • 2-5 years’ experience in an industrial workplace environment, preferably with supervisory experience
  • Appropriate level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Excellent ability to schedule multiple activities
  • Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
  • New Zealand Driver’s license

This is a residential based role. Candidates will be required to live locally or be willing to relocate.
