Environmental Advisor - Stockton Mine

Bathurst Resources Ltd currently operates Stockton Opencast Mine which is located close to the coast on a plateau in the Buller coalfield, 35 km north of Westport. This is one of New Zealand’s largest mines with a long history of coal production and produces high value coal for export to the world’s leading steel makers.

We are filling the role of - Environmental Advisor

The Role

Reporting to the Environmental Superintendent, you will share responsibility for meeting production targets while maintaining a safety conscious, environmentally sustainable workplace

The successful candidate will ideally have recent experience in a similar position and be looking for an opportunity to join a progressive team to develop their skills and experience.

We are looking for someone that can: 

  • Assist in the planning, design, and Project Management of environmental controls.
  • Contribute to  compliance with environmental management practices that minimise the effects of operations on the environment, as well as meet the relevant statutory requirements and legislation.
  • Contribute to reviews and audits of environmental management elements such as Environmental Management System (EMS), Site Environmental Management Plans (SEMPs) and Management Plans.
  • Assist in managing environmental contractors and consultants. 
  • Assist in monitoring rehabilitation success.

To be successful in the role you will have: 

  • A qualification, interest, and/or experience in one or more of the following fields: Environment, Resource Management, Natural Resources, Engineering, Geology, Geography, Science and/or Mining. 
  • Environmental work experience in any field.
  • Familiarity with, or ability to quickly gain knowledge of, the Resource Management Act (1991).
  • Ability to collect and analyse data, interpret results, and determine cause and effect to solve challenges.
  • Initiative, self-motivation and pro-active decision making.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
