The location for this position is Stockton
Our Stockton Mine is the largest opencast mine in New Zealand with a long history of high value coal production. It is located close to the coast on a plateau in the Buller coalfield, 35 km north of the Westport township, on the West Coast of the South Island. The Opportunity:
Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, we are seeking a highly motivated individual to join the Geotechnical Team at our Stockton Mine Operations. Engineering Geologists who are enthusiastic about joining the mining industry are encouraged to apply for this position. The position provides exposure to a wide aray of geotechnical challenges not found in traditional mining and civil work environments.
This will include:
- Geotechnical desk studies for small to large projects
- Scoping, managing and supervising geotechnical investigations including logging to AS1726, sampling, in situ testing, field mapping, preparation and review of laboratory test schedules, control of samples, preparation (where required) and checking of contract technical output (borehole logs & test results).
- Slope Stability assessments
- Quality checking logs and factual reports generated by others;
- Production of geotechnical factual and interpretive reports
- Monitoring of ground/wall movement for geotechnical reporting and hazard management
- Daily Geotechnical Inspections of active work areas
What you will bring to the role:
- A Bachelors degree in Engineering Geology/Geology
- Experience (3-5 years) as an Engineering Geologist / Geologist
- Experience in using geological modelling software and databases
- Interest in unique geological and structural features
